I’m writing this in between stops on the Color Mastery book tour – I just posted photos over at my Quilts and Creativity blog, so stop on over and see the latest tour news. But here’s a quick color exercise to do to stretch your color expertise. Get the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living magazine – their color issue (I think it’s May, but not sure). It has a one-page feature called “Colors We Love,” and it has paint splotches of colors they like from different paint manufacturers. One night in front of the television with my family, I listed the three elements of each paint color: it’s hue, value, and intensity. Wrote directly on top of the paint splotch on the page. What a great exercise. It really stretches your color vision.
Then do the same exercise with swatches from your stash, or even your scraps. No photo with this post – about to pick up my son from school. Just had to share a fun exercise that’s easy to do.
