The goodies get more interesting each week, don’t they? This Color Mastery/Twinkle Fabric Collection prize pack is up for grabs this week, and it includes a Color Mastery book, the Color Journal Kit CD, and all ten colorways of Yolanda Fundora’s brand new Twinkle fabric collection. Is this fabric not totally yummy? And it goes from a light value to a dark value in one hue. What possibilities it holds!

Rest easy: this contest is a bit easier. I really had ya’ll searching all over the internet for the answers to last week’s contest. This week, here’s what you do: become a Fan of Color Mastery on Facebook by clicking on the Like button at the top right of the Fan page. If you aren’t a member of Facebook, it’s time to join: your quilting friends are already there, and it’s a great way to see what everyone’s working on.

So after you join Facebook and become a Fan of Color Mastery, then what? Well, nothing, or something, depending on how many times you want to be entered to win. Here’s how it works:

Visit the Fan page and recommend Color Mastery to your friends by writing on the Color Mastery wall. It then shows up to all your friends (remember that Herbal Essences shampoo commercial? “I told two friends, and they told two friends, and so on, and so on ….”.

Each day I select a winner from all the Fans who’ve written on my wall that day for a unique surprise – a different one each day.

Each day you visit and write on the Color Mastery wall, I’ll enter you in the Friday drawing for the Color Mastery/Twinkle prize package. If you’ve visited every day, you’ll have five total entries. Just for spreading the word about Color Mastery!

This week is my kids’ last week of school and I’m getting ready for the big NYC trip for the Benjamin Franklin awards next week. I’m not sure who is more excited. But my biggest news? Wednesday is my 20th wedding anniversary. 20 years of spending every day with a bright, funny, thoughtful, and sweet man. What a wonderful week!

The party continues celebrating Color Mastery being a Ben Franklin award finalist for Best Craft Book of the Year. Congratulations to Judith Forehand, the winner of the Color Mastery Goes Viral contest. Judith gets to play with a luscious Wildflower jelly roll, a Love Apple table runner kit, and a set of my watercolor note cards.

Here’s your next opportunity to win big: a social media scavenger hunt. The quilting industry’s first ever! I’m so excited to be hosting such a fun and innovative contest, and here is how it will work:

Each day this week I’ll post a question here on the Color Mastery blog

You find the answer in one of the social media channels listed below

Collect the answers to all five questions and email them to me at maria @ colormastery.com (minus the spaces)

I’ll select the winner next Monday, so you have all weekend to find the answers!

Here are the social media channels you’ll need to check to find the answer to each day’s questions. It helps if you already subscribe to these, as you’ll know the types of information I share on each is unique, and you’ll know just where to go for the answers:

Quilts & Creativity blog (my personal blog)

Monthly newsletter (archives here; sign up to receive it here)

Facebook

Twitter

YouTube

I’ll be awarding a prize pack that includes a Liberty fat quarter bundle (just in time for those July 4th projects), a Love Apple table runner kit, and a copy of my new ebook, The Frugal Fabriholic: Your 12-Step Plan to Saving More Cash for Your Quilting Stash.

Here’s today’s question: What was the Color-of-the-Month I featured for January?

Search for your answer, write it down, and save it to collect with the other four answers, then email me at the end of the week. Have fun!

Oh, and that bear in the photo says he’s ready for summer. The impatiens were a Mother’s Day project I did with my sons, and the table runner? That’s a sneak peak of what’s coming up tomorrow at the Quilts & Creativity blog, featuring a certain color-of-the-month (probably not what you think). You don’t want to miss it!

Welcome to the first of four contests I’ll be holding here at the Color Mastery blog to celebrate being selected as a finalist for Best Craft Book of 2009 in the Ben Franklin awards. I’m starting off with an easy-peasy contest for week one, and you won’t believe what I’ve got in store for Weeks 2 & 3!!

I’m an independent publisher: basically, I’m a solopreneur who has a team of dedicated professionals I rely on to create beautiful books. I don’t have the big advertising budgets of larger publishers, so I don’t do a lot of advertising, direct mail, or other expensive forms of promotion. I rely on the best and most trusted way of promoting: word-of-mouth.

I need your help. Will you help me spread the word about Color Mastery’s finalist status for Best Craft Book of the Year? Not only is it a fabulous book, but I’ve provided a wealth of fantastic resources here at the website to extend and support the lessons in the book. So let’s get the word out!

Here’s what you do:

spread the word to your quilting buddies online and let me know about it either by leaving a comment here on my blog or on my Facebook Fan page. I respect everyone’s privacy, so I don’t need first & last names, just let me know “I emailed by guild program chairman” or “I suggested my quilting bee do a an author chat” or even “I spread the word about your newsletter to my sister.”

Here’s what I do:

select a winner from all of the entries late Friday so you Pacific Time quilters can join in the fun, and I’ll announce the winner on Monday.

What will you win? Well, I’m thinking something big. Something really big. So how about a jelly roll in a Wildflower color palette (fabrics personally coordinated by me), a Love Apple table runner kit, and a set of my watercolor notecards? That’s over $75 worth of prizes, just for shouting out the good news about Color Mastery. Oh, and that colorful fabric goodness peeking out from the behind the prizes? That’s May’s Color-of-the-Month table runner, which is running a bit late due to all the festivities.

Are you ready?

Set?

Go! Spread the word!

It’s been strange over the past couple of weeks without my color journals. I lovingly packed them off to Quilter’s Newsletter for an excerpt of the book they’re planning for a spring issue. I was hesitant to send them, they are so much a part of me. But I wanted to share the color journal process and its potential with quilters so they could explore their own color styles.

To fill that void, I’ve started a new journal. Still a color journal, but more of a visual journal and business plan in one. I’ve been following the exercises in The Creative Entreprenuer by Lisa Sonora Beam and part of that is to create a mandala that ties together four pathways of business. I was at a local cafe with my journal and supplies and created this.

I doubted the whole visual journal process at first (does this sound familiar to quilters who doubt color journals?). I own plenty of beautiful books on journals, but they all seem to be recycling other people’s art and the makers spend more time creating the pages than getting meaning out of them. But I forged ahead anyway and was pleasantly surprised. This visual journal process works for creative business owners. I really don’t like filling out state tax forms, doing accounting, cash flow projections, and the like, but they are necessary parts of my business. And Lisa’s visual journal process helps creative business people visually map out their strengths, weaknesses, and plans. In a method that speaks to them.

So again, it’s journals to the rescue. For color. For business. For quilts. After all, it’s always about the quilts.
